Barry S. McLeod began writing screenplays because of his passion for the art of movie-making. To date, he has written twelve scripts in various genres. Two scripts were quarter-finalist in the Writer’s Network Screenplay & Fiction Contests. The first script Speak Through the Night was represented by a WGA agency and was considered by Wishmaker Films(Dr. StrangeLove series/ James Earl Jones) and Atlas Entertainment(Three Kings/George Clooney/Ice Cube, Twelve Monkeys/Bruce Willis, Sister Act 2/Whoopi Goldberg, and Cool Runnings/Jamaican bobsled team).
His ongoing passion to write took him back to his elementary days when he performed in his first school play, which has now led him to write for theater. After writing Christmas plays for a local church, he would find himself penning several stage plays to include:
- Fruit of the Spirit
- Men-Or-Pause Part(s)
- 1:The Skybox
- 2:The Cosmetic Party
- 3:Reality
- Divorce “N” Us
- Can You Hear Me Now!
- Just Give Me a Drink of Water!
Plays
Fruit of the Spirit engages teenagers, presenting them with the challenge of dealing with peer pressure, identifying their individual talents and exercising their intellect/judgement. It is a fun play full of humor, music, dancing and personal growth.
Divorce "N" Us is a highly requested production that marriage/relationship ministries from different religious denominations are taking full advantage of—simply because couples are truly benefiting from the content and performance.
The Men-Or-Pause series stemmed out of the vein of his first book Men-Or-Pause — an inspirational, self-help relationship book full of “down to earth” reality, and humor. Claudia Menza of CMLA says: “I like the voice you bring to the book—it’s very accessible, very direct, very real.”
Can You Hear Me Now! is a gospel play that captures "family" within a complete circle -- including children from the past. Full of emotion and challenges this play deals with the soul in a very personal way; especially in seeing the head of the household experience both a major lost, and a road to salvation.
Just Give Me a Drink of Water! is a hilarious one-man act comedy blessing play. It tells the story of a very talented divorcee struggling with tons of personal issues -- including mid-life crisis -- who must eventually surrender to God and become a better father.
Books
Barry released his second book The Heart Inside My Rib, where he has introduced a new concept from his Express And Confess Café series dealing with poetic dialogue. The series addresses issues stemming from many types of relationships that present conflict and resolve. The Heart Inside My Rib deals with a husband and wife who are separated and must get on the “same page” with each other in order to reconcile.
Lord, Did You Push the "Pause" Button on Me? is the "very personal" account of Barry S. McLeod's transformation to becoming a Christian.
This multi-talented guy has also, over the years, performed in bands where he played bass guitar, drums and “some” keyboards. He has written many songs during his span, as well as composed the soundtracks for some of his plays (Men-Or-Pause Pt. 3: Reality, Fruit of the Spirit, Divorce “N” Us and two Christmas plays.)
